Welcome to Our Story

Our story starts nearly 40 years ago when Craig Harriss started fishing the Tasmanian waters. In January 1994 our boat the Mary H was purchased which is berthed between St Helens and Devonport. Craigs extensive years of fishing and lifelong connections within the industry both in Tasmania and mainland Australia and Judy’s previous background in cooking and running pubs Strait off the Boat was opened in 2011 and what a rollercoaster it has been since then all in the effort to make Strait off the Boat what it is today.

Throughout the past 14 years Judy and Craig have prided themselves with providing the community and other business with some of the best seafood we’re able to gather with our main supply being Tasmanian Gummy shark.

We are in a very unique position as we own and run our own boat we can ensure quality all the way through and make sure you are getting the freshest possible seafood we are committed to our ideal of everyone being able to eat seafood with plenty of options for those on a budget.

In early 2024 Judy stepped away from her part in Strait off the Boat and passed it onto Judy and Craig’s son Anthony Harriss to take control to ensure we are able to provide the best Tasmanian Seafood for another generation.

Although Judy has departed Craig has remained involved and continues to run the daily operations of the MaryH and continues to hold his position as chairman of SharkRag a initiative by Australian Fisheries Management Authority to ensure fisherman have input into the decisions that effect our livelihood and to ensure there is a next generation of fisherman.
